Rare and impressive WWII German scissor binoculars, commonly known as “rabbit ears”, officially designated S.F.14.Z.Gi. (Scherenfernrohr 14 Ziel Gitter). These large stereo observation binoculars were used by German military units for long-range battlefield observation and artillery spotting during World War II.
This example was manufactured by J.D. Möller GmbH in Wedel and bears the correct markings S.F.14.Z.Gi. on the bottom panel of the right lens. The optics remain clear, making this a very desirable and display-worthy piece for collectors of WWII military optics.
The binoculars are marked with the lubricant code “+”, indicating the use of vacuum grease 1442, designed to operate in extreme temperatures down to −40°C. The “+” marking also corresponds to the 1942–1944 production period. The marking H/6400 represents the official German Army optical contract number.
